Petrogenesis of Almond Trondhjemite
(Meta)-igneous rocks of Alabama (USGS).
In southern Appalachians, Paleozoic mountain building commenced at ca. 470Ma and continued until ca. 260Ma. Extensive plutonism accompanied regional deformation and metamorphism. Almond Trondhjemite is one of these plutons and contains important information for the tectonic evolution of southern Appalachians and for the curst-mantle interactions during the Paleozoic Neoacadian Orogeny.
This work will include whole rock major and trace element geochemistry, single mineral geochemistry with Electron Micoprobe and LA-ICP-MS, whole rock and plagioclase Sr/Nd isotope systematics with TIMS, 40Ar/39Ar dating of biotite-muscovite as well as zircon U/Pb ages and zircon-Ti thermometer with LA-ICP-MS.
