Reconstructed extent of Paganzo Basin and potential source rocks. Modified after Ducea et al. (2012); Otamendi et al. (2020) and references therein.

The main goal of this project is to implement detrital monazite geochronology, which was previously used by other researchers but still way underused, and combining it with the emerging monazite U-Th/He dating. The case study for this is Carboniferous-Permian Paganzo Basin of Sierras Pampeanas (ARG). Broader project goal is to implement this dataset to previously established ones such as sandstone petrography, mudstone geochemistry, zircon double dating (U-Pb and U-Th/He) and apatite U-Th/(He) dating, to generate a comprehensive understanding of polyphase orogenic basins.

The project is in collaboration with Departamento de Geología, Universidad Nacional de Río Cuarto (ARG) and Department of Earth and Oceanographic Science, Bowdoin College (USA).
